3032 Remediation September 7, 2010 Update

Again nearly a month has gone by since we updated the blog. Joan and I were in Rapid City over the Labor Day weekend for a memorial tournament honoring a former ballplayer on the South Dakota Pheasants who passed away from cancer a few year ago. Played 4 games with the 5th rained/winded out Monday morning. "Good enough" said most of us who, at ages "over 60+", had enough aches and pains to call it a weekend. This was sort of a tune-up for the tournaments in Phoenix, Vegas and Ft Myers that many will be attending in October and November.

So, back to the house.

Since August 12 when I last wrote, all windows and doors have been re-set, the trim detail and cladding (siding) has been installed, and they are currently putting the stone on the front entryway and "stucco" on the lower parts of the house where there is only insulation over the footing (and not studs to which the siding may be attached ("to" - for Rita and Joan: my favorite grammar nazis' benefit!!)

We have purchased new lights for the garage pillars and deck, and new door hardware to replace the weathered bits.

Most likely - weather permitting - by the end of this week they will be painting! We have picked out a couple of browns, a lighter one for above the belly board and a darker one for below it, and a beigey color for the trim. Hopefully it will look good.

Below are pictures of the progress. (Joan suggested I take a few photos of the "mess" inside the house to show the progress - or lack of it - I am making on the interior painting. These will be included.)

Here the stone in being put on the entryway. There will not be stone on the "returns'.

The shot to the left shows the central garage pillar prepped for stone. Also shown is one of the new garage lights.

This shows the darker color we are using for the "non-main area" rooms on the upper level.

Here is a shot of the new color in the main living area upstairs. It is called "Latte" and is not as yellow as it seems to be in the picture.

The remediation process has generated more than a little dust. We are basically just waiting until the work is done to clean. (If we could just run this out for few years, we would have a lot of time for more fun things!)

The colors to the left are the browns that will be on the house. The lighter color on top and the darker on the bottom

This picture shows the "scratch" coat on the insulation before the "stucco" is put on.

At the left is the "stucco" which is actually an acrylic covering that goes on like stucco. We will paint this the same color as the bottom of the house.
