January 2008 Bahamas Cruise

Hi All,

From January 7 to 12, Joan and I joined our friends, Russ and Rita Northup, on a cruise to The Bahamas on the cruise ship, Carnival Celebration. This was a Christian Cruise and, as Russ put it, was like being in church 15 hours a day! There were a lot of good messages and great gospel music.

Along with the serious part, we spent time in Freeport on Grand Bahama Island, where we went kayaking in the mangroves,

Probably the most beautiful scenery on the whole trip was at Half Moon Cay where Holland America (owner of Carnival Cruise Lines) has leased the island from the Bahamian government. They have turned this place into a great shore stop with parasailing, snorkeling, skiing, with an eating area large enough to feed up to 3,000 souls. I now believe the colors of the wasters I see in the travel brochures.

The last stop was in Nassau. We wandered around the city a bit, visited the famous Atlantis Hotel and learned to ride the Segway (with no hands!)

Following the cruise, we spent a couple weeks in Orlando with trips to visit friends in Melbourne and Jupiter, FL. We relaxed, took some golf lessons, played some very nice golf courses, and generally had a nice, relaxing time.
